Georgia Hammer, Assistant Director
Students must be entering grade 8 or 9 to be eligible for this program.
This program combines work, recreation, and employment training for youth entering grades 8 and 9. Participants will assist Concord Recreation summer teachers and counselors in a camp setting, which is both supervised and supportive. Positions will be available in the full day Camp, in the afternoon at the Summer at Alcott program, and in the morning half day camps, Kaleidoscope and Preschool Adventures. The Workreation program offers weekly workshops including team building, safety training, first aid, and communication skills. Participants earn $1 per hour credit toward the cost of most Recreation Department programs. The credit can also be used toward a student or family membership at the Beede Swim and Fitness Center. Every attempt will be made to place individuals in preferred jobs. Interviews are held in May and early June. It is important to attend an interview to ensure that the program is a match for both the applicant and the Recreation Department.
The Workreation Director will make the final decision regarding the applicant’s participation in the program. Hours are flexible and arranged mutually. Registrations will be accepted on March 19, 2012 and are limited to 4 weeks per participant. This program sells out quickly, so please apply early.
